Phase I, InnerChange at the Carol
Vance Unit, Richmond, TX
In January
2006, Lucy Smith conducted a literacy training for peer educators at
the faith-based InnerChange at the Carol Vance Unit, Richmond,
Texas. Participating in the training were volunteer Judy Indermuehle
and selected inmates for the HOPE program. Among these inmates
was Justin Prestwood, former HOPE peer educator at the Hutchins
State Jail in Dallas, Texas. Justin served as a HOPE literacy
peer educator, trainer, tester, and program expeditor for
approximately two years at Hutchins. He fulfilled his duties
and obligations extremely well, and we at HOPE are proud of his
accomplishments. During this time, he matured spiritually,
making a firm commitment to live a changed life through personal
faith in Jesus Christ. Before his two years was up at
Hutchins, Justin applied to and was accepted into the InnerChange
program. He is assisting Judy Indermuehle with program setup
and training.
